ULTLINE (Ultraline) vs Ultherapy vs Shurink Universe: How These HIFU Devices Differ
Compare ULTLINE (Ultraline), Ultherapy, and Shurink Universe by imaging, energy delivery, and cartridges, and see how GU Clinic Gangnam offers each.
ULTLINE, Ultherapy, and Shurink Universe are all high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) devices. Each one concentrates ultrasound energy at a set depth beneath the skin to create small points of heat. They differ in what the clinician can see before delivering energy, how each device is built for the face and body, and how it delivers energy. At GU Clinic, they also differ in the options you can book and the aftercare we ask you to follow.
Ultherapy's FDA clearance documents built-in ultrasound imaging, which lets the clinician view the tissue before treating it. ULTLINE has separate handpieces: one for the face, approved in Korea for eyebrow lifting, and one for the body, approved for helping reduce abdominal circumference in people who meet set criteria. Shurink Universe offers a dot mode and a broad-heating mode, with line-type and circular Booster cartridges. This comparison covers how the devices work and how we offer them, not which one produces better results.
What do ULTLINE, Ultherapy, and Shurink Universe have in common?
All three use focused ultrasound. The device directs acoustic energy to a chosen depth below the skin, where the energy heats the tissue and produces small, separate points of coagulation. Cartridges or transducers set that depth, so one device can work at a shallower level where skin is thin and a deeper level where tissue is thicker.
Because the principle is shared, the differences come from what each device adds to it: imaging, the handpieces and their approved uses, and the delivery pattern.
How do the three devices differ?
ULTLINE (Ultraline) | Ultherapy and Ultherapy PRIME | Shurink Universe | |
|---|---|---|---|
Manufacturer | Ulthera, Inc. (Merz Aesthetics) | Classys, Korea; sold internationally as Ultraformer MPT | |
Regulatory approval | In Korea: eyebrow lifting (Line cartridges); helping reduce abdominal circumference in people with a BMI of 30 or below and abdominal fat at least 2.5 cm thick (Ultra cartridges) | U.S. FDA: lifting the eyebrow; lifting loose tissue under the chin and on the neck; improving lines on the décolleté; improving the appearance of loose skin on the abdomen and arms | |
Handpieces and cartridges | A Line handpiece with four facial cartridges; two Ultra handpieces for the body, including a curved cartridge for areas such as the flanks | Interchangeable transducers with built-in imaging | Face, body, and Booster cartridges, in line-type and circular patterns |
Energy delivery | Line and dot modes on the Line handpiece | A line of separate heat points at the depth of the selected transducer | Dot-pattern Normal mode and broad-heating MP mode |
Facial depths | 1.5, 2.0, 3.0, and 4.5 mm, as described in our ULTLINE guide |
Imaging on Ultherapy. The FDA clearances for the original Ulthera System (2018) and its Ultherapy PRIME model (2025) both state that the DeepSEE transducer lets the clinician view the skin and the tissue beneath it to a depth of 8 mm. The clinician uses that view to confirm the transducer is in full contact with the skin and that energy will be delivered at an appropriate depth, for example away from bone.
ULTLINE's two kinds of handpiece. ULTLINE's manufacturer describes a Line handpiece and Ultra handpieces. The Line handpiece uses four cartridges chosen by treatment depth, and its approved use in Korea is eyebrow lifting. The Ultra handpieces treat the body: two can work at the same time on a large area such as the abdomen, a curved cartridge fits areas such as the flanks, and a two-level cooling mode is built in for the skin surface. Their approved use is helping reduce abdominal circumference, by about 2 cm on average, in people with a BMI of 30 or below and abdominal fat at least 2.5 cm thick. On the body, then, ULTLINE is approved for abdominal circumference, while Ultherapy's FDA-cleared body uses address loose skin on the abdomen and arms.
Delivery modes on Shurink Universe. Shurink Universe has a Normal mode that delivers energy as dots and an MP mode that heats a broader area, with line-type cartridges and circular Booster cartridges. Classys designs the Booster cartridge to be used together with a dedicated ampoule applied to the skin. On our menu, these appear as Ultra (line type), Booster (circle type), and Eye/Derma sessions. The Derma option uses a 1.5 mm tip that works at a shallower level than standard tips, and the Eye option uses a 2.0 mm tip made for the eye area. ULTLINE's Line handpiece also switches between line and dot modes. For the face, both devices offer a 2.0 mm depth (for ULTLINE, as described in our ULTLINE guide), a depth that Ultherapy's 1.5, 3.0, and 4.5 mm facial transducers do not include.
Which differences matter in your consultation?
Start with what you want the treatment to address, then look at which device offers it.
If you want your treatment depth checked on screen, ask about Ultherapy. Its imaging shows the skin and the layers beneath before energy is delivered. Its FDA-cleared uses include lifting the brow and loose tissue under the chin and on the neck.
If your concern is abdominal circumference rather than loose skin, ask about ULTLINE's body handpiece. It is approved in Korea for helping reduce abdominal circumference in people who meet the BMI and fat-thickness criteria above. Of these three devices, ULTLINE is the one with body and abdomen sessions on our menu.
For facial lifting, all three are options. ULTLINE and Shurink Universe both offer dot and line delivery on the face. Which one we use, and at which depths, depends on your skin thickness, facial fat, and where laxity begins, which the clinician assesses at your consultation. Our ULTLINE vs Ultherapy PRIME guide explains how those features shape a facial plan.
What changes when you have each device at GU Clinic?

Our aftercare instructions for all three note that mild redness or swelling can appear after treatment and usually settles within a week. Follow the instructions you receive for your own treatment.
Can you compare shot counts across the three devices?
No. Each device counts a shot in its own delivery pattern. Ultherapy delivers each pass as a line of separate heat points, Shurink Universe can also heat a broader area in MP mode or deliver energy in a circle with its Booster cartridge, and ULTLINE switches between line and dot modes. A 300-shot Shurink Universe session and a 300-shot Ultherapy PRIME session use the same number, but a shot is not the same unit on both devices. Compare shot counts only within one device. Our Ultherapy guide explains how shots are planned for that device.
FAQ
Is Ultraline the same as ULTLINE?
Yes. Ultraline, ULTLINE, and the Korean name 울트라인 refer to the same HIFU device made by Eunsung Global. Our device page uses the name ULTLINE, and the session options are listed as ULTRALINE.
What if my main concern is sagging jowls?
Start with why the jawline has changed: loose skin, tissue that has moved downward, and volume loss call for different approaches. Our guide to sagging jowls in your 30s compares HIFU with RF and thread lifting for that question.
Can I have HIFU during a short trip to Seoul?
Yes, when the assessment, preparation, and appointment availability allow. Plan around the aftercare in the table above, and see Five Days in Seoul for a sample schedule.
When you contact us, name the devices you are comparing and the areas you want treated. Our English consultation team on WhatsApp and Instagram DM can go through the current options with you before your visit.
