ONDA Body vs. XERF Body: What’s the Difference?
Discover the difference between ONDA Body and XERF Body treatments for firmer-looking skin and smoother body contours.

'I’ve lost weight, but my abdomen still looks loose.' 'Why do my upper arms and thighs still look uneven?' |
Many patients visit us because loose skin after weight loss
has not improved as much as they expected.
This is because fat cells may shrink as you lose weight,
but stretched skin does not necessarily contract at the same rate.

Body contours are not determined by fat volume alone.
Collagen and elastic fibers that support the skin, the thickness
and distribution of subcutaneous fat, muscle mass, and cellulite can all affect the way the body looks.
Loose skin is more likely to remain around the abdomen, underside of the upper arms,
and inner thighs when weight is lost rapidly or skin elasticity has already declined.
Below, we explain how ONDA Treatment and XERF Body Treatment work,
along with the key differences between these two body-contouring options.

"Q: ONDA Body vs. XERF Body"
ONDA Body is a well-known non-surgical treatment for firmer,
smoother-looking body contours. More recently, XERF Body
has also gained attention as an option for managing skin laxity.
The two treatments use different types of energy and target different tissue concerns.
☑️ XERF: Dual-frequency RF at 6.78MHz and 2MHz
XERF delivers controlled thermal energy at different depths according to
the condition of the skin, supporting collagen remodeling.
It may be used to improve the firmness and density of thin,
lax skin around areas such as the abdomen and upper arms.
☑️ ONDA: 2.45GHz microwave energy
ONDA delivers thermal energy to the dermis and subcutaneous fat layer.
It may help contour areas where skin laxity, localized fat,
and cellulite make the body line appear uneven.
In general, XERF Body may be considered when there is relatively
little excess fat but the skin looks thin and loose.
ONDA Treatment may be more suitable when localized fat and skin laxity appear together.

"Q: Can ONDA and XERF Be Combined?"
Skin laxity and localized fat do not always result from a single factor.
For example, the amount of abdominal fat may decrease after weight loss while
the skin remains loose. Localized fat and cellulite may also remain in certain areas.
In these cases, a combination of ONDA Body and XERF Body may be considered
rather than relying on one treatment alone.
However, combining the two does not automatically produce a better outcome.
The treatment order, energy settings, coverage, and intervals should be adjusted
according to the skin thickness and fat volume in each area.
The abdomen has a broad surface area and may contain more concentrated fat,
while the skin of the upper arms tends to be thinner and moves frequently.
For this reason, the same treatment plan cannot be applied uniformly to both areas.
Before treatment, the condition of the skin and fat in the target area
should be assessed so that an appropriate plan can be developed.

"The Number on the Scale Does Not
Define Your Body Contour"
When addressing loose skin after weight loss, the focus should not be limited to reducing more fat.
It is also necessary to distinguish what changes remain in the skin and subcutaneous fat layer.
XERF Body may be considered first when the skin has become thin and loose.
ONDA Body may be prioritized when localized fat or cellulite creates an uneven contour.
When both concerns are present, ONDA and XERF may be combined to
address skin firmness and body contour through different treatment approaches.

At GU Clinic Gangnam in Seoul, we tailor the treatment area
and energy settings based on skin thickness, fat volume,
the location of laxity, and the patient’s desired body contour.
Even within the same treatment area, the condition of the skin and fat layer varies from person to person.
A customized approach based on the individual’s current body composition
is therefore recommended over a standardized protocol.
If you have lost weight but are still concerned about loose
or uneven contours around the abdomen, upper arms, or thighs,
consider discussing a personalized body-tightening plan instead of pursuing further weight loss alone.
