All That With Just Water?
Aqua Peel: Does It Really Work?

Hello.
This is Dr. Conan, Medical Director of Seoul GU Clinic.
"When you apply makeup, the flaking dead skin becomes more visible and makes your skin look messier."
You may also feel frustrated by impurities trapped deep inside your pores and want them removed. Many people try to cover visible impurities with makeup, but instead experience stress when dead skin flakes rise to the surface and appear white. Because of this, the number of people receiving Aqua Peel treatments in Gangnam has increased significantly.
Some patients notice clear improvements, while others feel little to no change. Although Aqua Peel is effective for removing sebum, dead skin cells, and Demodex mites, results vary depending on skin type and condition.
From this point on, I will objectively explain why impurities accumulate in the skin and how Aqua Peel works at its core.

Why Impurities Accumulate in the Skin
Impurities that build up in the skin are not simply a matter of poor cleanliness. They are a combination of byproducts created during metabolic processes and external pollutants. Over time, they accumulate due to several factors.
1) Excessive sebum production plays a major role. Sebum forms the skin’s protective barrier, but when overproduced, it accumulates in pores and forms sebum plugs. Hormonal changes, stress, high fat diets, and lack of sleep all increase sebum secretion.
2) A thickened layer of dead skin is another cause. The skin naturally sheds dead cells on a roughly 28 day cycle. Aging, ultraviolet exposure, dryness, and excessive cleansing slow this cycle, allowing dead skin cells to build up and block pores.
3) Incomplete cleansing also contributes. Makeup residue, sunscreen, and fine dust can remain deep within pores. When they combine with sebum, they oxidize and turn into stubborn impurities. This is especially common when oil based products are not properly removed.
4) Reduced metabolism and poor circulation further worsen the issue. When blood circulation is impaired, waste removal from skin cells slows down. Lack of sleep, smoking, and chronic stress are common contributing factors.

Problems Caused by Unremoved Impurities
When impurities accumulate in the skin for long periods, a cycle of clogged pores, thickened dead skin, and inflammation develops. Clogged pores occur when sebum and dead skin combine, leading to blackheads and whiteheads. Inflammatory acne can follow, as blocked pores prevent sebum from escaping and create an environment where bacteria thrive.
Skin tone can become dull and uneven as light reflection decreases and the surface becomes rough. Melanin production may increase, resulting in blotchy and uneven coloration. The skin barrier also weakens. When the balance of sebum and dead skin is disrupted, the natural moisture barrier is damaged. This leads to increased moisture loss, dryness, redness, and heightened sensitivity.
Finally, skincare effectiveness declines. When dead skin and impurities remain on the surface, active ingredients cannot be properly absorbed, reducing the effectiveness of skincare products. Cleansing alone cannot completely remove deep seated impurities. This is why a treatment that can purify pores deeply without physical irritation is necessary.

What Is Aqua Peel?
Aqua Peel is a combination of the words aqua, meaning water, and peel, meaning exfoliation. It is a treatment designed to remove impurities using water based technology. Aqua Peel simultaneously exfoliates dead skin cells, purifies sebum, cleans pores, and supplies moisture. The core mechanism consists of three steps.
First, vacuum suction gently pulls impurities out of the pores. Second, a solution containing AHA, BHA, or moisturizing ingredients is applied to dissolve sebum and dead skin. Third, after impurities are removed, moisture and nutrients are delivered into the cleansed pores.
Using vacuum pressure and water flow, impurities inside the skin are loosened and extracted. This means that without manual squeezing or abrasive scrubs, it is possible to remove sebum, dead skin, and blackheads while simultaneously hydrating and nourishing the skin.
As a result, even sensitive or acne prone skin can experience clearer and brighter skin without residual inflammation.

If Aqua Peel Works Well, Why Did I Not Feel a Difference?
This is often the most common question.
Even after receiving a treatment known to be effective, some people feel no noticeable improvement. In my view, there are two main reasons.
The first is the lack of personalized settings. Aquapeel devices allow pressure adjustment, and solutions must be selected according to skin type. This is where the experience and judgment of the practitioner are critical. Areas with heavy sebum, such as the nose, require stronger settings, while sensitive areas like the cheeks require gentler treatment. If the procedure is performed uniformly without adjusting by area, it is difficult to achieve optimal results.
The second reason is that the treatment may not match the underlying skin concern. This does not mean Aquapeel is ineffective, but rather that the patient’s skin issue cannot be resolved through cleansing alone.
For example, deeply indented scars will not significantly change in size simply through pore cleansing and hydration.

Summary
Aqua Peel is a beneficial maintenance treatment for individuals with accumulated impurities such as sebum and blackheads. However, it is important to understand that it is not a universal solution for all skin problems.
While the principle behind Aquapeel is simple, determining how to apply it effectively requires a detailed consultation with a professional.
